FRESHWATER ORGANISMS (from Taiwan)

FRESHWATER ORGANISMS (from Taiwan)

Online publication.

One year ago, I participated to GUANDU INTERNATIONAL NATURE ART FESTIVAL 2017. I presented a quadriphonic sound work related to the echolocations calls of Pipistrelle bats and a sound piece based on the underwater sounds recorded in the ponds of the park with spoken words narrating the little universe under the surface of the water.
Tomorrow is the opening of the 2018 edition of the festival, and for this occasion, I am finally releasing an album of sounds, my collection of favourite recordings, realised with hydrophones in the freshwater of the rivers and ponds of Taiwan, mostly in Guandu Nature Park.
These sounds are produced by plants doing photosynthesis and aquatic insects. None of my recordings are completely identified. There is a lot of mystery around those calls and the process of research and experimentation is just at the beginning. It seems there isn’t any entomologist or bioacoustician in Taiwan who is specifically researching in this field. I hope this album will attract a bit of attention and I am very open to collaboration for field studies and experimentation. The album is free to download, and please download it because it includes a PDF booklet describing each of the recordings. If you wish to make a donation, it’ll be used for the next physical publication of Kalerne Editions : “Fushan & Taipingshan” (hopefully early 2019).
Last but not least, I’d like to mention the sound project of Slavek Kwi, invited this year in Guandu by the same festival, who includes also some intense hydrophone recordings. Check also his releases !
