Field recording in Tainan, with Ting Shuo 聽說
Finally, I had the pleasure to visit TING SHUO 聽說, a very nice place in Tainan, efficiently and pleasantly held by two sound artist from Taiwan/Australia : Alice Hui-Sheng Chang & Nigel Brown (also know as the duet 12 Dog Cycle).
We had there, from January 20 to 23, a field recording workshop somewhere between city gardens and the seashores… Encountered some japanese abandoned houses, temples, street workers, VLF radio, bamboos blown by the wind, sailing boats and other urban oddities… Experimenting with AB and ORTF microphone techniques, contact mikes and hydrophones but more essentially WE WERE LISTENING. Or in a quieter mode : w e w e r e l i s t e n i n g .
And we discussed, a lot, about experiencing the soundscape, this interface between our ears and the sonic reality.
